Barr Soft Drinks buys UK water brand
Strathmore joins IRN-BRU stable
Barr Soft Drinks has purchased the Strathmore Mineral Water Company for £15m from Constellation Brands.
Strathmore will join Barr's growing portfolio of soft drinks, which includes IRN-BRU, Tizer and Orangina.
Strathmore is one of the UK's biggest water brands, as well as being market leader in the on-trade. Its acquisition makes it the only Scottish-owned and sourced brand in the bottled water category top 10.
Barr intends to continue investment in the brand's on-trade development which accounts for more than half of current volume but also with sales in other channels.
Barr chief executive Roger White said: We are extremely proud to be bringing a brand with such a strong Scottish heritage into the fold of a successful Scottish company. Strathmore is an established brand from a trusted water source that is performing well in the category and with an excellent track record in npd.
We believe it has exceptional potential for further growth in today's market and we are very much looking forward to rolling out a dynamic investment programme for its development in the months and years ahead.
Jonathan Kemp, Barr commercial director added: Strathmore is a great brand with a lot of potential that will benefit from some strong marketing support. We will be giving it the IRN-BRU treatment, although the style of the advertisements may be somewhat different.
