Tesco set to spark PC price war

Tesco is set to take on PC retailers by offering a permanent range of major brand products.

Initially more than 50 Tesco Extra stores will offer customers up to 20 notebook and desktop PC packages from manufacturers including Samsung,Toshiba, Gateway, eMachines and Acer.

Tesco, the fourth-biggest UK online retailer after Amazon, Dell and Argos, said its home computer range would be "extremely competitively priced".

Entry-level notebooks will start at less than £400, latest technology notebooks at £800 and value desktop PCs from under £300.

Until now the supermarket has only sold PCs when it sourced bargain stock.

Tesco's decision to sell PCs on a permanent basis will be the latest challenge to high street electrical retailers.
