An on-pack promotion, where children gain free entry into selected UK attractions with a paying adult, will feature on more than two million packs of Spanish superior grapes across the four major supermarkets.
During the peak supply period of July and early August, the Spanish grapes will feature in on-line and in store radio advertising, as well as on trolleys and posters in the UKs four largest supermarkets. Shoppers will also be asked to enter a competition at the promotional website
www.winwithspain.co.uk
, to win one of 1,000 prizes.
María José Sevilla, director of Foods from Spain, said last season the grapes benefited from the integrated approach and she was looking forward to another strong supply of superior seedless in 2006.
Exporters of the grapes predicted a bumper crop this year after favourable growing conditions in the Murcia region brought forward this seasons crop. The first small volumes of superior seedless arrived in UK supermarkets in the last week of June. Exporters said they expect to have a larger total volume than the 2005 crop of 15,000 tonnes, around one third
of which was received by UK customers. UK consumption of grapes is still increasing by more than 10% year-on-year.
