Arla Foods strengthens global brand strategy

More speciality cheeses could be heading the UK's way, following Arla's acquisition of Dutch company Tholstrup Cheese

Dairy producer Arla is to acquire Tholstrup Cheese, marking a further step in Arla’s strategy of strengthening the Group’s portfolio of international brands, particularly speciality cheeses.

Over the past five years, Arla has invested several hundred million kroner in increasing its production of cream cheese, feta and mozzarella for the international market.

Europe’s second largest dairy company, Arla owns 51% of the UK listed company Arla Foods UK plc which was formed through the merger with Express Diaries and Arla Foods plc, in October 2003. Following the merger, the UK has become Arla’s largest market, accounting for 33% of total turnover.
