Old Speckled Hen loses its strength in the on-trade
Off-trade version of leading premium ale to remain a 5.2% abv brew

| Old Speckled Hen: lower abv |
East Anglia brewer Greene King is slashing the strength of its leading premium draught ale, Old Speckled Hen, in the pub trade to make it more of a sessionable beer.
From August 21, both cask and keg versions of Old Speckled Hen will be cut from 5.2% alcohol by volume to 4.5% abv to make it more of a mid-strength brew, positioning it between Greene King's standard IPA and strong Abbot Ale brands.
The move is part of a re-branding exercise on Old Speckled Hen, which will include new-look pump clips in the on-trade and new-look bottles and cans in the take-home market. The off-trade version of the brand will remain a 5.2% abv brew.
For full details of the Old Speckled Hen's off-trade activities, see the September issue of Checkout.
