Tesco to take on Microsoft
With its new range of own label software Tesco is providing computer programmes at rock-bottom prices
Tesco is to launch a range of own-brand computer software, including support and websites, designed to rival companies such as Microsoft, Symantec and McAfee.
Tesco claims its software will offer customers more choice, accessibility and unbeatable prices in the fast-growing computer software arena.
The software range, which has been specifically developed for Tesco, will initially include six titles: an office suite; two security / antivirus products; a personal finance tool; a CD/DVD burning tool; and a photo-editing tool.
Tesco customers will be able to pick up each software title for under £20.
From October Tesco Software will be available in over 100 Tesco stores nationwide, with plans to roll out across the UK over the following 12 months.
The software will be sold in addition to computer hardware, following Tesco's entry into this market earlier in the year, and via Tesco.com. The retailer says customers will also be able to access technology and customer support via the
TescoSoftware.com website.
Commenting on the deal, Tesco buyer, Daniel Cook, said: "With more people working from home and schools encouraging greater use of IT the demand for home computing equipment is bigger than ever."
