New World next stop for Taste the Difference
Sainsburys is looking to the New World for additions to the new Taste the Difference wine range, which was recently launched to replace the retailers Classic Selection offering.
The Taste the Difference range is a direct replication of the former Classic Selection and so most of the 24 wines are from the leading Old World wine regions, such as Chablis, Sancerre, Vouvray, Bordeaux, Alsace, Côtes du Rhône, Margaux, Medoc, Rioja, Albariño and Barolo.
The New World is represented by a Western Australian Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon, a New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, a Barossa Shiraz and a Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.
Wine category manager Jane Hughes said Sainsburys was now looking to work with other regional projects in the New World to extend the range, with South Africa and North America the most likely areas to target.
She said: The Taste the Difference wines brings it in line with the rest of the Sainsburys offering. We are really pleased with the results.
Consumer research revealed, she said, that shoppers would be more receptive to the Taste the Difference branding. The idea of the range is to give consumers the reassurance of the Sainsburys branding when it comes to trading up to the classic wine styles, which range in price from £4.99 for a 2005 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine up to £12.99 for both a 2002 Margaux and a 2001 Barolo.
