Sainsbury’s launches pluot

SAINSBURY’S has launched its latest stone fruit – a cross between a plum and an apricot.

Sold under the supermarket’s Taste the Difference Specialty Stonefruit label, Sainsbury’s hopes the pluot will encourage children to eat their 5-a-day. Sainsbury’s fruit technologist, Dr Theresa Huxley, said the pluots have been five years in the making. With blood red flesh on the inside, a pluot’s skin colour varies from golden yellow and green to a dappled red and almost black.
