Champagne flies the flag for Taste the Difference

Sainsbury’s is further extending its Taste the Difference range this month (October) with the launch of a flagship vintage Champagne, a vintage cava and a vintage port. Additionally, four Taste the Difference wines are now available in half-bottle sizes.

Champagne and sparkling wine are growing at 7% and 8% respectively in Sainsbury’s and these figures have encouraged the retailer to introduce Taste the Difference variants.

The Taste the Difference Premier Cru 2000 Blanc de Blancs (£22.99) is produced by Duval Leroy and will be Sainsbury’s flagship Champagne. Buyer Melissa Draycott describes the bubbly as “fine, elegant and lively”. Also available this month, the Taste the Difference 2004 Vintage Cava (£9.99) is produced by leading producer Codorniu.

Draycott said the Taste the Difference Vintage Port (£19.99), also on sale from this month in 150 stores, will be available in limited supplies only.

The half-bottle Taste the Difference range comprises a Chablis, an Italian Pinot Grigio, a Medoc and a Chianti Classico, retailing between £3.99 and £4.99.

* Sainsbury’s is currently the exclusive retailer of the new Gran Campo Viejo Cava Rosé, which went on sale in 200 stores at the end of September. Brand owner Pernod Ricard is targeting the brand at ABC1 women aged between 25 and 45 years of age.

* Sainsbury’s is sponsoring a new feature at The Wine Show, being held at the Business Design Centre, Islington, between 26 and 29 October, on matching food and wine. Eighteen Sainsbury’s wines will be showcased to complement a variety of food dishes.
