Magners is hit by supply worries
Magners, the brand that has revitalised the cider market over the last two years, has run into supply problems that will hit the UK take-home market for the next six months or so.
The success of the Irish cider brand is being blamed for the constraints that the off-trade will witness until extra capacity comes on stream in the spring of next year.
Brand owner C&C is confident it will be able to meet orders for the brands 1-litre and 750ml bottles and 500ml cans from existing UK customers, although some shortages on certain skus may be inevitable.
It is affecting off-trade packs, said Magners marketing director Maurice Breen. It is a constraint we are dealing with. Most of our customers are being understanding and are working with us.
The Magners production plant has already doubled in size in the last two years and work is now on to double capacity again by next spring with a £200m investment. A new autumn advertising campaign, including TV support, is about to break.
